Color laser printers are based on fundamental scientific principle applied in an outstanding way. The term laser printer looks a bit puzzling - how can a beam of light decipher words and pictures on paper? It is the static electricity created on an electrical charge made on an insulated thing like a balloon. It works on the principle that oppositely charged atoms are attracted to each other, similarly, objects with opposite static electricity fields hold together.

This electrically charged part of the drum lifts up the toner, applying electro-magnetism. Heat and pressure get united to shift the toner onto a sheet of paper.
In color laser printers, full pages at a stretch, are sent to the drum even before the toner is applied. That's why, sometimes, they are called page printers. It helps in fast printing and cartridges also last longer - to the extent of 15,000 pages, before they are replaced. Another feature of this printer is that resolution of dpi (Dots per Inch) of 2,400 is very high, which could be increased further. You can get an endless range of fonts as well as high quality printouts. There are two categories of color laser printers - LED and LCD printers. The printing process of both is the same. The only difference is that LED printers use Light Emitting Diodes to charge the drum, while the other uses Liquid Crystals.
Color Laser versus Inkjet printing
It is not difficult to choose the right option color laser printer or inkjet printer, depending on your needs. If you require both black and white as well as color printing, then the color laser printer is an economical decision. Inkjet printer could be a better option, if your printing requirement is not quite much.
Color laser printers are better in quality and speed to inkjet printers. You can take, for example the color cartridges of Samsung CLP-500, which are good for 5,000 pages, and cut the cost on color laser printing to inkjet printing. The other plus point of color laser printers is that its ink never dries as it comes in dry toner. Print quality is also better.
Technically speaking, ink of inkjet printers is quite expensive and it dries over a period of time, unless you have a business inkjet, which is not common. In the long run, color laser printers are cheaper, speedier and to an extent, its spare parts can be amended.
On the other hand, photo quality of inkjet printer is much better. You can use a black and white laser for high speed documents. But if you want high volume texts, charts and web graphics and no high quality pictures, it is best to use laser printer.
The end result is that after identifying your printing needs like pages per month, type of photos (black & white or color), document, quality of documents and photos, time taken for printing, need for automatic duplexing and your budget, you can determine your choice of printer.
