Ink is a liquid that contains pigments or dyes that is used to color a surface to produce an image, design or text. Ink is also used for drawing or writing with a pen, quill or brush. Thicker inks that are in paste form are used extensively in letterpress and lithographic printing. Ink is a complex medium composed of solvents, pigments, dyes, resins, lubricants, solublizers, surfactants, particulate matter, and other materials. The second type of inkjet ink is UV curable ink which consists mainly of acrylic monomers with an initiator package. After printing, the ink is cured by exposure to strong UV-light and the advantage of UV-curable inks is that they "dry" as soon as they are cured. Also they can be applied to a wide range of uncoated substrates, and they produce a very robust image. Disadvantages of this ink are that they are expensive, require expensive curing modules in the printer, and the cured ink has a significant volume and so gives a slight relief on the surface.
