Laser Printer Refill - Computers - Hardware

It can be costly to get a laser printer refill on your toner cartridge. It increases four times if you have a color laser printer. There are two basic alternatives to buying new OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) toner cartridges. The first is a laser printer refill kit and the second is remanufactured/compatible cartridges. Both these alternatives can save you money on your refills.

Laser Printer Refill Kit

Laser printer refill kits allow a toner cartridge ink to be refilled quickly and easily. They are bottles of the toner/ink that is put directly in the toner cartridge. Now, this might bring up images of your hands and clothes covered in ink. That is not the case. These laser printer refill kits can be used without getting ink all over you or your work area. You are provided with a full set of easy to follow instructions.

There are two different types of laser printer refill kits. One is a "universal" kit where the ink can be used for any printer. These kits do not always provide the best print quality. Then there are refill kits that use ink formulated for each particular printer to the quality standards of the printer manufacturer.

These refill kits are a fraction of the cost of a new toner cartridge. But do your research on a laser printer refill option before you need the refill. When you wait until your ink runs out, you end up paying more because of the immediate need.

Remanufactured/Compatible Cartridges

A remanufactured/compatible cartridge is not made or endorsed by the original printer manufacturer. They are manufactured by a third part to the basic specifications of the manufacturer so that they are guaranteed to work in whatever laser printer you are buying them for. Sometimes they are OEM empties that are refilled with toner and resold. This laser printer refill option is not always cheaper then the OEM toner cartridges. So you will need to shop around and make sure you are getting a deal on your laser printer refill.

Using these alternative laser printer refill methods will not void your warranty. Some manufacturers may recommend against buying anything that is not new brand name supplies, but it is not a requirement to keep your printer warranty in tact. You will have few, if any, problems with a laser printer refill as long as you are purchasing from a reputable 3rd party vendor. And if you do encounter problems, reputable 3rd party vendors will replace or refund your laser printer refill. Until recently, all toner cartridges had a visible refill cap. But since printer manufacturers want to discourage people from using a laser printer refill kit, some refill caps have been removed. This is not a problem since the laser printer refill kits show you how to make your own hole to refill the toner. It is easy to do and takes only a few minutes.

Both the remanufactured/compatible cartridges and laser printer refill kits will come with some type of guarantee. Review the guarantee with the vendor you are considering purchasing from them.
