Printers: Making it Work for Beginners - Advertising - Print Advertising

Once you have selected a printer that is appropriate for your business or even your personal use, the challenge now is how to make it work. Of course the basic procedure generally involves unpacking the printer, connecting it to the computer, installing drivers, and then testing the unit. But it is not as easy as it may seem because you will be following a step by step procedure to ensure that your printer is properly set up and would produce quality prints as you have expected. If you are a beginner and don't know yet how to set-up a printer, you may find some interesting guidance in the steps below: First, you need to get an adequate printer cable. Most of the printers now utilize an IEEE-1284 parallel port, and this means the PC's LPT port should be configured for ECP operation. Be sure to also use a high quality shielded printer cable less than 6' in length. Use an electrical outlet that is properly wired. Printers generally require adequate and "clean" power, so make sure the setup of location where you plan to put the printer is not overloaded with high energy electrical devices (such as motors or air conditioners) to avoid electrical problems that may lead to an even greater problem. Make sure the AC outlet is properly wired and also grounded for your safety.Plan the location carefully. A printer typically requires several inches of space on each side once it is on the desk or table. This is necessary to ensure proper ventilation. Online printing reviews on printers conducted by some printing company reviews that are crowding the printer with other devices may result in overheating and eventually cause malfunction of printers. And printers of course should always be placed on a flat and stable surface.Save your packaging. Unpack your printer properly and carefully and be sure to set aside the packaging materials. It would be convenient for you later on when you will need these packaging materials to return your printer for service, tra nsferring to another location, or even when you want to keep or store it. Once the printer is out of its packaging, you can remove any protective inserts, guards or straps. Set them aside also. Don't remove the warranty sticker if is stuck on the printer.Install your media. When your printer is already in place, carefully install the toner or ink cartridge. Then insert the paper, transparencies, labels or other materials. Remember to use media that is appropriate for your particular printer.Run a printer self-test. Before you connect the printer to the host computer, you must first run a self-test to verify for yourself if the unit is in good working condition. If there are problems that you have encountered in the self-test, you will know that the problem is localized to the printer rather than the computer.Lastly, it's time to connect the printer. Once you've tested the printer, power down the printer and the computer, and then connect the printer cable between the printer and the host computer. Power up the printer, then boot the computer. If the printer is compatible with Plug-and Play technology, Windows will detect the printer and allow you to install the printer drivers from the printer's software diskette(s). If Windows does not detect the printer, you can add the printer manually using the Add Printer Wizard. Now, that you have the know-how on proper installing of printers, get your personal printer running!
