HP Laserjet 1000 - Featureless Color Laser Printer - Technology - Electronics

If you're looking for a bare bones personal laser printing device with decent performance specifications and a reasonable pricetag, the HP Laserjet 1000 may offer what you seek. With mediocre speed, quality, and power, the Laserjet 1000 comes as an affordable solution for personal users who prefer laser technology over inkjet, and who desire an electronic appliance made to look exactly like Gizmo Duck from Ducktales.

The HP Laserjet 1000 boasts a dismissible print speed of 10 pages per minute for legal sized documents, though users will notice slightly better numbers when printing to letter sized, or smaller, paper. Print resolution is adjustable up to a maximum of 600 x 600 dots per inch for black and white as well as color.

A width of 16 inches and a depth of 19 inches make the HP Laserjet 1000's footprint about average for a color laser device in its category, along with the unit's height of exactly 10 inches. The HP Laserjet 1000 weighs just under 18 pounds, which is actually fairly good, even for a stripped down, featureless unit such as it.

A single USB port is the HP Laserjet 1000's only connectivity option, but allows the unit to be compatible with both Windows based PCs as well as Mac OS systems. The device also comes with a single MB of Random Access Memory, which should prove to be barely sufficient for complicated printing tasks, and is not expandable whatsoever.

48 MHz of processing speed should help keep the HP Laserjet 1000 from bogging down excessively when dealing with large workloads, while a 250 sheet capacity input tray should prove to keep reload cycles at decent lengths.

Though the paper tray is non expandable, the HP Laserjet 1000 does come equipped with a single sheet bypass slot that utilizes a straight through path, as opposed to the paper tray's curved path, which allows for special media types such as cards, labels, envelopes, and transparencies compatibility with the device.

With a toner cartridge duty cycle of 2500 pages, the HP Laserjet 1000 rests within acceptable parameters regarding color toner, and high and jumbo yield cartridges are also available. HP has, however, been kind enough to include a fully loaded cartridge in box, as opposed to the often seen "starter cartridge" with a reduced toner capacity, and they've even included a USB cable as well.

HP was also considerate enough to include a one year limited warranty that includes parts and labor, but requires users to manually bring their troubled device to one of HP's service centers. While the HP Laserjet 1000 is Energy Star compliant, it does run at a seemingly high wattage level of 214 W.

Regardless of the mediocre performance specifications across the board, it should be noted that the HP Laserjet 1000 is, in fact, an affordable color laser printer, which, in itself, is something notable. Still, with much better performing units available at minimal price increases, only Uncle Scrooge himself would bother with the HP Laserjet 1000.
