How Do You Clean a Printer Head? - Computers - Hardware

There are various inkjet models still being sold since they are cheaper and provide decent outputs as long as they are properly maintained. People often try to get the more expensive models as they last longer and require less maintenance. No matter what the model of the printer is, it can be possible for the overall quality to diminish as the printer is used continuously. It isn't all the time that the printer or some of the internal components get the blame. Even the ink cartridge could still have lots of ink, even though print outputs look like the ink is lacking. In many cases, the printer head may just need cleaning for future print jobs to look better.Easy Method of Cleaning the Printer HeadMost inkjet printers have an automatic cleaning system that can be controlled by the printer's very own driver and software. Although modern printers that use the USB interface should immediately work after they are plugged in, cleaning the printer head may not be possible until t he correct software is installed.First, check if your printer includes an installation disc that contains the software and driver for performing maintenance operations like printer head cleaning. If there is none included or if the CD is lost, you will need an Internet connection to visit your printer manufacturer's website and find the software and drivers that match the model of your inkjet. Download the required setup files and install to your computer the same way you would from the CD.Items are likely to be created in the start menu where you can easily launch whenever you wish to maintain your printer. Others require you to access the printer from the "Control Panel" where you need to right-click that printer and select "Properties". Make sure that there are no printer operations going on and then c lick the button and let the printer clean the printer head on its own. Follow it up with a test print to see if there are any improvements.Manual Printer Head CleaningThis method should only be done as a last resort if the software method doesn't work and you are sure that there is still some left in the ink cartridge and nothing else is broken. Remove the ink cartridge and put it in the ink container if you have any and then consult the manual to know the location of the print head. Take a cotton swab and dip it in isopropyl alcohol or hot water and then gently apply it on the print head ensuring that any inkjet deposits that are stuck on the printer head to be loosened. You can easily check the cotton to see how effective your cleaning is. If the print head is removable, you can also soak it in warm water or alcohol to clean it directly. You may want to consult your printer's manual or online help found in the CD for other methods in printing the cleaning head. The automati c software method is still the best way to go.
